Richard Israel [he/him]is a New York-based theatre director and educator specializing in the development of new musicals, and is the recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Career Achievement. Recent directing credits include the world premiere of Kid Gloves at Hollywood’s Skylight Theatre, the world premiere of King of Pangea at London’s Kings Head Theatre and the off-Broadway premiere of American Whore Story at AMT (Broadway World Award Winner for Direction and Production of an Off-Broadway Play). He has directed off-Broadway at Theatre Row and the NY Theatre Festival, and regionally at The O’Neill Theatre Center, The Ogunquit Playhouse, The Laguna Playhouse, Z-Space San Francisco and McCoy/Rigby Entertainment. Notable regional and southern California directing credits include the world premieres of Having It All; the Jeff Marx/Fat Mike punk rock musical Home Street Home; Floyd Collins (Ovation Awards for Direction and Outstanding Musical for Floyd Collins), Violet (Ovation Award for Direction) 110 In The Shade (Ovation Award for Outstanding Musical), and the west coast premiere of Anita Bryant Died For Your Sins. Richard was the Theatrical Coordinator for the Emmy award-winningseries, Big Little Lies (directing all of the on-screen Avenue Q scenes) and was the director of the multiple award-winning musical short film Into Light.
