About
A Unique Artistic Partnership
The LIU Brooklyn BFA Acting program offers Studio Acting, Voice and Movement classes in partnership with The New Group, a renowned Off-Broadway theatre company based in Manhattan. Students travel to midtown Manhattan three times per week to study with accomplished professional actors, directors and content creators, all of whom are working members of the acting industry and have extensive educational credentials.
By studying under the studio model with a professional theatre company, students are given the opportunity to network with industry experts and participate in master classes with artists at the top of their field. New Group Studio classes begin in the First Year, allowing students to become immersed in the craft and the business of acting from the moment they arrive on campus.

A Comprehensive Approach to an Acting Education
In addition to the Manhattan-based New Group Studio sequence, BFA Acting students are provided with a comprehensive education in an array of areas which complement their core acting classes. Brooklyn-based BFA Acting classes include four semesters of On-Camera Performance, Improv, Stage Combat, Directing and Playwriting, as well as Theatre Theory and History, all geared towards providing students with a well-rounded and practical education in all facets of the art of theatre.

Performance Opportunities
The BFA Acting program is designed to provide our students with plentiful opportunities to perform onstage. Production seasons include three Mainstage productions and six to eight Student Capstones, offering between 40 and 50 roles per academic year. A typical Mainstage season consists of a classical piece (Shakespeare, Chekhov or an American classic), a large-cast contemporary play and a smaller-cast play that has recently premiered off-Broadway. Mainstage productions are directed by NYC-based Off-Broadway directors with extensive professional and academic resumes. In addition, the BFA Acting program collaborates with New York-based playwrights to conduct informal readings of original plays, providing our students with the unique opportunity to be a part of the new works developmental process
Off-Campus Acting Projects
The BFA Acting program acknowledges the unique opportunities presented to our students as a result of our proximity to Manhattan and the Broadway community. To that end, the Program does not have a no-audition policy – students are encouraged to audition for off-campus projects, and to begin their careers as New York actors from the moment they arrive on campus. The Program offers flexibility regarding off-campus acting work, and instructors and administrators are encouraged to assist students as they pursue opportunities outside of the BFA Program.
