Ian Morgan is the Associate Artistic Director of Off-Broadway theater company The New Group. He teaches at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study/NYU and LIU Brooklyn, and has been a guest speaker at schools such as Carnegie Mellon, UCSD and Northwestern. He launched the NewGroup/NewWorks play development program, which has supported hundreds of playwrights, and featured curated festivals and series like The Climate Plays, Free Fest, No Limits (co-curated with playwright Thomas Bradshaw), and Dislocation and Reinvention (at CUNY Graduate Center, dealing with immigration). He began and oversees The New Group's education programs for all ages, with offerings that include the current partnership with LIU Brooklyn’s BFA Acting program. Ian has worked as artistic producer and dramaturg on numerous noteworthy plays at The New Group, where he has also directed the world premieres of Critical Darling, A Spalding Gray Matter, and the Drama Desk-nominated The Accomplices. Additionally he has directed new work in New York at La Mama, 59E59, Soho Playhouse, Stella Adler Studios, Abrons Art Center, HERE (including the NY premiere of Eric LaRue, recently released as a feature film), and Theatre Row; and developed plays at the O’Neill Theatre Center, the Playwrights’ Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre, New Dramatists, Cape Cod Theatre Project, Barrow Group, Jewish Play Project, and the Magic Theatre.
